Your plan must fit your circumstances.
This checklist is a starting point, not personalised emergency advice. Use the current CFA Fire Ready Kit and official warnings when planning.
Before the season
- Clear leaves, twigs and debris from gutters and around buildings.
- Keep grass short and remove dry vegetation close to the home.
- Move flammable materials away from buildings and decks.
- Check hoses, pumps and water supplies are accessible and working.
- Make sure your property number is clearly visible from the road.
- Plan what you will do, where you will go and when you will leave.
- Include children, older people, neighbours, pets and livestock in the plan.
On high-risk days
Check the fire danger rating and VicEmergency warnings early. Conditions may make roads unsafe and emergency services may not be able to reach every property. Leaving early is the safest option.
